Playboy Nov. 1968 |
What you'll find here:
This blog is a collection of vintage advertisements, posted Monday through Friday. All ads are scans from magazines in my collection (or those of my friends), so I claim no copyright over them. Remember, these ads are from bygone eras: don't get upset if you see something you don't like, nor excited if you see something you do.
If you particularly like an ad and want a hi-res copy for yourself, email or message me and I can send you one.

Fiat 850 Spider
Playboy Nov. 1968 |
Although technically two different cars, this ad is almost identical to the ad for the 124 Spider. Though the 850 is about $1000 cheaper. Of course, the engine was only a hair under 850cc (a little over half the size of the 124's engine, and smaller than many motorcycles), so you're not getting quite as much car.

MG Sprite
Playboy Sept. 1966 |
Back in the day they actually sold MGs in America. Check out that 30 mpg. Not bad, even for today. That's a super cheap car, too. The quoted $2000 works out to $14,490 in today's dollars. You won't fine any car at that price except maybe a base-model Yaris anymore. Bring back the old days!

Eagle's Shirts, School Colors
Playboy Sept. 1966 |
I thought this was pretty neat. Listing a whole bunch of schools in whose colors Eagles makes shirts looks like a good way to attract young buyers. I'm not sure how this works considering that nowadays most schools licence their colors and you have to get a deal to sell things like that. But maybe it's OK since they don't actually have the school's logo?
