What you'll find here:

This blog is a collection of vintage advertisements, posted Monday through Friday. All ads are scans from magazines in my collection (or those of my friends), so I claim no copyright over them. Remember, these ads are from bygone eras: don't get upset if you see something you don't like, nor excited if you see something you do.

If you particularly like an ad and want a hi-res copy for yourself, email or message me and I can send you one.

Happy Memorial Day with Budweiser

Playboy Oct. 1968
On this barbeque-y holiday, a lot of people are relaxing with a beer.  So here's a Budweiser ad.

Canadian Club

Playboy Nov. 1967
Usually you hear tell of men using alcohol to prey on young women, getting them to do things they wouldn't normally try...
But I'm not sure I've ever heard of using whiskey as a carrot to lead a woman on an outdoors excursion.

London Fog and the Creepy Aliens

Playboy Nov. 1967
In some Playboy magazines, London Fog would run several-page ads showing off a lineup of new fashions and accessories in the form of various stories.  This one follows a Bond-esque hero, The Fog.  Unfortunately, I neglected to scan all the pages, and I no longer have the magazine these came from.  So here you go.  If anyone out there has an old magazine with this ad in it, I'd love to get some scans of the rest of the pages.

Sawyers Projector

Playboy Nov. 1967
That $60 price tag works out to about $413 in modern money.  In an age of HDTV and 4k movie screens, it's hard to imagine paying that much for 100 slides-worth of viewing.

Shelby Cobra GT350/500

Playboy Nov. 1967
Now here's a car that people can get excited about.  Unlike the cute-and-tiny Fiat, the perennially unchanged Beetle, and the now-defunct AMX, the Shelby Cobra is a car that was lusted after when introduced, and has only grown in legendary status since.  When people think Mustang, this is their fantasy.

h.i.s for Mathematics Majors

Playboy Sept. 1964
This week I'll be showing four ads from h.i.s.  They ran all of them in Sept. 1964, which I thought odd, as I've never seen any company run that many full-page ads in a single magazine before.

Van Heusen 417

Playboy Nov. 1967

Ok, so she wants this guy to prove that the shirt never needs to be ironed.  How exactly should he do that?  There is really no way to prove that something never happens, so that woman is going to be waiting a long time.

100 Pipers Scotch

Playboy Jan. 1969
Ad text:
Legend proclaims that when a Scot sips a truly great Scotch he hears 100 pipers.
We created a whiskey smooth enough to match that legend.  But note. Instead of pipers, you may hear "There is a Tavern in the Town." or a Dixie trumpet belting out "tin Roof Blues."
Regardless of your tempo, take time to taste this Scotch

Timex Watch

Playboy Jan. 1969
$250 is what it would cost you to buy this watch, price adjusted for inflation.
